What's a CRS?

The Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) is the highest Designation awarded to sales associates in the residential sales field. The CRS Designation recognizes professional accomplishments in both experience and education. To receive the Certified Residential Specialist designation, Realtors® must demonstrate outstanding professional achievements, including high-volume sales and/or a high number of transactions and pursue advanced training.

Since 1977 the Council of Residential Specialists has been conferring the CRS Designation on agents who meet its stringent requirements.

Only about 30,000 realtors® have met the rigorous requirements leading to the CRS designation, about 3% of all realtors® in the United States. While the number of CRS designees is small relative to the total number of real estate agents from coast to coast, CRS agents are involved in 3 times the number of average residential real estate transactions nationwide.

Within the realtor® community is a special class of experts designated as Certified Residential Specialists (CRS), a designation considered to be the "CPA" of residential real estate. Created and conferred by the Council of Residential Specialists of the National Association of Realtors®, the CRS designation provides home buyers and sellers, as well, with an easy way to identify highly trained agents who have a proven track record of handling residential real estate transactions as well as advanced education in related areas such as finance, technology, and marketing. Still, the cost of CRS's services is the same as for other realtors®.
