Abington Township

Abington Township

Dating back to before the 1700's, Abington Township is one of Montgomery County's oldest communities, however, it was officially incorporated in 1704. In this township you'll most likely find some of the country's oldest transportation routes, industries and churches. Several of the route centers were the foundation of what Abingtaon is today. Currently the township's residential area is much sought after and provides convenient access to a major shopping cennter, and many small businesses. Abington also contains some of the country's biggest employers for the township and the communities of Willow Grove, Roslyn, Glenside, Rydal, North Hills, and Meadowbrook.

Recreation

All season programs are organized by Abington's Department of Parks & Recreation. Their facilities include community parks, nature areas, several public playgrounds, athletic fields, tennis courts, and swimming pools.

Public Transportation

Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) bus and rail lines provide convenient access to points within eastern Montgomery County and Philadelphia.

Shopping

Throughout Abington, many community and neighborhood shopping center are conveniently located for your shopping needs. The Willow Grove Park Mall is the closest major shopping mall and is located in the northwestern corner of the township.

Public Services

Most of the township is serviced by public water and sewer systems. A significant full-time police force serves the community, and the fire companies provide service to the area staffed by dedicated volunteers. Residential waste management is provided by the government of Abington township.
