One of the oldest municipalities in Montgomery County, Whitpain Township was established in 1701 and covered mostly by rich farmland up to the turn of the 20th century. By the 1930's, there was a noticeable increase in residential areas with a significant rise in population beginning around the late 1950's. Large executive-style homes are today's icons of Whitpain as well as it's business parks, community shopping facilities, and Montgomery County Community College. Convenient access to other areas of Montgomery County such as Greater Norristown and the North Penn area are made possible by the primary roads that pass through the township. Blue Bell was incorporated in 1701, but was then known as Pigeontown. This was because of the large flocks of passenger pigeons that once lived in the area. It wasn't until 1840 that it's name was changed to Blue Bell, after the historical Blue Bell Inn. At that time, the town consisted of one inn, a store, a post-office, a blacksmith shop, a wheelwright repair shop, and six homes. Today, it's obvious that the town has grown considerably since it's early years. According to the 2000 U.S. Census, Blue Bell sports a population of 18,562 people. In fact, Money Magazine declared Blue Bell to be one of the best places to live in the country. The town got 14th place out of a total of 100 candidates, with 49 of those being other towns in Pennsylvania. With it's quality of education, stimulated economy, promising real estate appreciation, and overall low crime rates; Blue Bell is most definitely the best place to live and settle your family.
